Professor Karol Łopatecki, DSc, from the Faculty of International Relations, received his professorial nominationfrom the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki. The ceremony took place on 7 January 2026 at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.
Professor Karol Łopatecki was awarded the title of Professor of Humanities in the discipline of History by a decision of the President of the Republic of Poland dated 31 December 2025. A few days later, he joined the group of scholars who formally received their nominations during the official ceremony.
Professor Karol Łopatecki heads the Unit of Quantitative and Geospatial Research at the Faculty of International Relations. His research interests focus on cultural heritage, spatial studies, as well as the analysis of constitutional and legal history and the history of military organization, with particular emphasis on theories of state fiscal capacity and the military revolution. He also conducts research on cartography, as well as the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Podlasie region.
He is a member of the Commission for Lithuanian Studies and the Military History Committee operating within the Committee of Historical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as the Team of Historians of Cartographyat the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He currently leads five collaborative research projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), the National Programme for the Development of the Humanities (NPRH), and the Central Project Management Agency. At present, he also serves as Deputy Podlaskie Voivodeship Heritage Conservator.
